Last week's guest speaker, Gary Campbell, is Board Vice President and Director of Programming and Development with Sierra Community Access Television: Comcast Channel 2. This public access channel provides a wide variety of programs chronicling community events in El Dorado County. Gary and his team of videographers share video coverage of events such as Show n' Shine, the El Dorado County World Wide Gold Panning, Coloma Days, the Annual Downtown Placerville Christmas Parade, the Annual Cameron Park Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and our own CP Rotary Community Resources Showcase Event. He regularly features our Club events, as well as short segments highlighting our Club.

Gary shared the beginnings of Channel 2 as a Public Access channel and how that differs from Public Broadcast channels, how programming is developed and its public access through cable (58,000 subscribers in El Dorado County), U-Tube, e-mail and subscription. Sierra Community Access Television is a true communications resource for El Dorado County.
Channel 2 has a big library of broadcast material, both what it has recorded and what was given it by others, including most of the California Gold material after the death of its originator, Huell Howser. They do programs on a wide variety of local items of interest.

Their programs gets rebroadcast in some amazing places: They did a program some time ago about a pickup truck that was made locally to use wood as its power source. Much later they got a call from Jay Leno who had seen it on local TV in Italy and want to buy the truck!
