Past President Joe Ryan spoke about our on-going local projects:
  • The bicycle program: Each month about 50-60 old bicycles collected by El Dorado Disposal, taken to the prison by club members, refurbished by a dedicated inmate, taken to be distributed by Cameron Park Rotarians and Moose Lodge members to children and the homeless. The program has been ongoing since the late 1980’s and has distributed many thousands of bicycles.
  • The Community Observatory: The observatory which has two (a 17” and a 14”) reflecting telescopes plus the outdoor Arthur Cort Sky Theater, was donated by Cameron Park Rotary and opened in 2006.
Our club remains involved in the project. We built a small building to house a remote Solar Imaging telescope. It was completed 2017 and is awaiting installation of the telescope by the observatory docents. In 2018 we will expand the seating of the Sky Theater and install additional safety railings.
Every year
  • Cameron Park Rotary awards six or seven $2,000 academic scholarships to graduating Ponderosa High School students
  • The Cameron Park Rotary Community Foundation awards vocational grants for the Darol Rasmussen Endowment Fund.
  • We distribute dictionaries to 3rd graders in our county.
