Five students from Ponderosa High School competed in the Annual Cameron Park Rotary Music Contest. Their first names, grades, and future academic interests are: Vasiliki (nickname Tiki), 11th grade, played piano, wants to be a math and piano teacher; Thomas, 11th grade, played trombone, whose interests are Math and Physics; Naomi, 11th grade, played viola, and wants to teach violin; Mary, 9th grade, played oboe and wants to major in music and oboe; and Andrew, 12th grade, played piano, also teaches piano and, after a 2 year church mission, will major in physics at BYU. All of the performances were excellent and held the Rotarians at rapt attention until we broke into a loud applause at the end of the contest. The winner of a $250 prize was Andrew, followed by Tiki, who received $150 as the second place prize, and Naomi, Thomas and Mary were all given the same $75 prize, tying for third place. |
