Dave Sargent, Bill Ettlich, and Don Fuller provided a presentation on our water project just completed in Nicaragua and also the team’s
visit to La Calle Real in November. Key to our work in Nicaragua is our partner the Worldwide Child Relief Foundation (WCRF). WCRF was established by our very own Hal Young 20 years ago. They built a community center and in recent years we have partnered with them to build a sports court, add lights to the court, and also some emergency repairs to their water system including a well pump and electrical transformer.
The water project that we completed in March involved adding 1800 feet of primary piping and also making modifications to the water
tank to facilitate better cleaning. Overall the project improved the reliability and safety of the community’s water system.
Going forward we will make additional improvements, including a water analysis and design and installation of a new filtration system. This will further improve the safety and sanitation of the water. Longer term we want to expand the system to operate additional hours during the day and serve the entire community.
