Next Meeting, Apr-18: Luanne LePere and Reesa Osterhoudt - Friends of the Library
Luanne LePere (left) is the daughter of long-time Rotarian, Chuck LePere.  Luanne moved to Cameron Park with her young family in 1992.  She has been a docent with the Community Observatory since its inception in 2006 for both the night sky public events and the solar viewing outreach program.  She retired in 2020 and started volunteering for Friends of the Library- Cameron Park branch.  She is currently serving as their treasurer and chairperson of the Book Sale efforts which are the primary source of funds for our gifts to the library.

Reesa Osterhoudt is the Branch Manager of the Cameron Park Library, part of the El Dorado County Library System.  Reesa was born and raised in San Francisco and moved to Folsom with her young family in 2019.  In a previous life she was an attorney who practiced law with her father in a small firm for 15 years, before deciding to make a career change in 2017.  She earned a Master of Library and Information Science degree from San Jose State University and has been happily working in the library field ever since. In 2021 she was hired in her current role as the Branch Manager of the Cameron Park Library. Reesa has found a second home in the Cameron Park Library, where she is privileged to work alongside committed and knowledgeable library professionals and dedicated volunteers, such as the Friends of the Library, to bring the world of literacy, the best books and materials, innovative programs and events, and opportunities of all kinds to this wonderful community.
Last Meeting, Apr-11:  Rotary Music Contest
Last week, we enjoyed seeing and listening to that perennial favorite, the Music Contest, in which local high school students compete for a cash prize and the chance to advance in the Rotary Area and District. We had two talented performers competing for the prize this week.  Ben Young (below) stepped in as the emcee when Youth board member, Sid Bazett, played it safe with the after-effects of a recent illness.

The first to perform was Kyle Clemons (above left) on the Alto Sax.  He performed an excellent rendition of the bluesy "New York State of Mind" by Billy Joel.  Kyle plays all sizes of saxophones, but likes this alto sax best. He also plays the piano.  As other hobbies, he likes skiing and snowboarding in the winter and mountain biking the rest of the year.

Riley McCall (right) played two pieces on an electronic piano.  The first was "Liebestraum" (translates as "Love Dream"), by Franz Liszt.  It starts slow and dreamily, and then transitions to fast and challenging as the hands move rapidly all over the keyboard.   His second piece was "Cantina Band" from the cantina scene in Star Wars Episode IV, by John Williams.  It was a very lively and challenging piece as well. Riley also competes in Pole Vault on the track team.

The voting was very close, with a split decision -- some judge thought each performer was best.  But based on points, Riley McCall won the first prize of $250 and will move on to the Area Music Contest on April 20th in Placerville.  Kyle Clemons won the 2nd place prize of $100.
