No Rotary meeting this week - join us for a Halloween 5th Thursday social at the home of Don and Linda Fuller, potluck BYOB 5-7. Costumes optional but much appreciated!
ADG Kurt Raffetto introduced the DG. After his remarks DG Dennis gave several awards.
First he presented the Quiet Rotarian award to Mike Dugan. This award is for a member who is very active and contributes a lot to the club and does not expect recognition. Next the DG announced that Marlyn Pino-Jones is the "Heartbeat of Rotary Service" awardee for her tireless service to the club and her devotion to Rotary and its goals.Stewart Warner was recognized as our newest member. He is a successful real estate broker and developer in the region, with resorts and developments in Georgetown and Donnor Lake Village, among others.
Next the DG announced that the club produced 12 new Paul Harris Fellows, a record for the club. This was accomplished by raising over $20,000 for Polio Plus, by using a 2:1 matching grant from the Bill Gates Foundation and a 1:1 match from the club. In addition, club members gave Recognition PHF points to members who were close to advancing to a next level. They included Mike Dugan, Bill Hughes, Bill Ettlich and Laurie Edwards. The DG remarked that at most visit to clubs he inducts one or two PHF but has never given 12 at once! Pictured below the PHF inductees included Denise Leach PHF, Cathy Dugan PHF, Mike Dugan PH+1, Cheryl Matossian PH+1, Steve Long PH+2, Dave Sargent PH+3, Laurie Edwards PH+4, Marlyn Pino-Jones PH+5, Tom Elken PH+5, Gary Clarke PH+6, Bill Hughes PH+8, and Sabrina Ho PH+8. All pictured below. The club now has 78% of its active members as Paul Harris fellows! Mike Dugan will send an article and photos to Past DG Stacey Graham about the club's outstanding Polio Plus program and enrolling 12 new and advancing members as PHFs. Stacey now chairs Public Relations for the District.
There was also a picture of all Rotarians attending the meeting shown below:
We enjoyed the annual visit of the District Governor Dennis Geare!
Starting at 10:00 am the Board met with DG Dennis for reports from Board members about their area of activity. Reports were presented fromPresident Cathy Dugan, Marlyn-Pino-Jones, Joe Ryan, Bill Ettlich, Adam Marshall, Tom Elken, Mike Dugan, Dave Sargent, Don Fuller and Area District Governor Kurt Raffetto. The DG thanked the club for the detailed reports sent to him in advance as "incredibly impressive" and described our club as "so dynamic, really a great Rotary Club". He invited members to attend a Training session in Reno on November 9th as well as next year's PETs March 7-9, 2025, which will be attended by President-Elect Adam Marshall in San Jose. He encouraged the club to strive to produce a social atmosphere including meetings at bars, restaurants from 5-7 pm to reduce "silos" of responsibilities and help bonding between members. He talked about "60-minute projects" as a way to promote participation and asked many questions.
Cathy Dugan encouraged members to attend an outstanding play, "Rogues" at the Stage at Burkes Junction. It is an outstanding and moving show about caregiving and relationships. You can attend a matinee at 1:00 pm or the evening show at 5:00 pm. The owner of Burkes Junction Bill Glasser will be our speaker on Nov. 21st.
