Next Meeting is at the CSD, Dec-14-2023:  Eric Aiston, Director of Cameron Park CSD
Note that this week's meeting is at the Cameron Park CSD. The Country Club is not available to us this week.

Our speaker this week is Eric Aiston, a Northern California native and CP CSD Board Member. He settled in Cameron Park in the summer of 2005 with his wife and two sons.  Eric is always engaged in his community - coach with Prospector Soccer for 10 years, treasurer for the Ponderosa Choir Boosters, and supported his sons through sports and music in the community as they have attended Rescue Elementary, Pleasant Grove Middle, and Ponderosa High School. It was his work with Simpson University in Woodland that ignited his fire to serve in local governance. “As Director for the university’s regional center, I was invited into leadership circles with education and the Woodland city council. That gave me valuable experience understanding local and regional needs and insight into long-term planning.”  Eric is serving in a four-year Board of Directors term which ends in December 2024.  He is a past President and currently appointed to the Board of Directors’ Fire Annexation Ad Hoc Committee, Fire and Emergency Services Committee and CC&R Committee.

Eric will provide an update on the current issues and programs of the Cameron Park Community Services District.
Annual Christmas Party and Auction
On December 7th, our club had a fun and successful party with over 100 attendees.  If you missed it, or if you want to relive it, here is a link to an excellent video produced by our own Laurie Edwards with many photos put to music and a recording of about 3 minutes of the highly entertaining Ponderosa High School Vocal Jazz. Dave Sargent led the planning of the event as chair of the Christmas Committee whose members included Marlyn Pino-Jones, Mike and President Cathy Dugan, Bill Ettlich, Janet Yarbrough, Don Fuller, JoEllen Brooks and Tom Elken.

Pictured are President Cathy and auctioneer Mike Dugan, getting the festivities under way, and to the right is the Ponderosa High School Vocal Jazz group performing difficult arrangements of both unique and standard holiday music.  See the end of the video pointed to above for two of their songs.

There were many interesting Silent and Live Auction items up for bidding, but those who stayed to the end got a special treat:  On Pearl Harbor Day, Gary Clarke described the rare book "A Pearl Harbor Album" that was put together by his grandfather and other family members as a detailed description and collection of photographs depicting the day of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in clear view of their family home and more on what it was like to live near Pearl Harbor during WWII.  The bidding was very spirited, even passionate.  The result of all aspects of this fund-raising event was to raise significant funds for the club's academic scholarship and vocational grant projects.
Last Meeting, Nov-30-2023:  Jordan Brushia,  El Dorado County Area Aging Agency
Jordan Brushia is a Program Coordinator for El Dorado County Area Aging Agency, (AAA).The AAA assists older adults, 60 years and older, and their families with resources and solutions, supporting a fuller, happier, healthier life. The goal of this network of agencies is to keep seniors living independently in their own homes by supporting both elders and their caregivers.

El Dorado County has ample need for these services.  For example, 15% of our population is between ages 65 and 74, inclusive, compared to 9% statewide.  Our County also has 26% of our seniors at an income level below $30,000, considered to be at low- and moderate-income levels.

The EDC AAA provides referrals to seniors who call in on their helplines in the following areas: 1) Nutrition Services, which includes Home Delivery of meals and Community Food Banks or Kitchens;  2) Legal Services, which includes Senior Legal Services, Local Fiduciaries, NorCal Legal Services and EDC Law Libraries for free or for a donation the client can afford; 3) Housing and Homelessness, which provides referrals to Apartment Listings, Board and Cares, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Assisted Living and Long Term Care Facilities; and 4) Caregiver Support Services:  including Family Caregiver Support Services, In-Home Care Agencies, In-Home Supportive Services and The Club or other Senior Day Programs.

Volunteer opportunities include Meal Delivery Drivers; Information & Assistance (I&A) Office (referrals, outreach, wellness checks); Senior Shuttle Attendant and Driver; Senior Health Education Class Leader; and Senior Peer Counseling.  For help or more information, the Senior Help Line (reaching the I&A Office) is 530-621-6369 or 800-510-2020.
