Next Meeting, May-18-2023: Dusty Martin, Cameron Park Fire Chief
Dustin "Dusty" Martin took on the role of CP Fire Chief in mid-2022.  He is no stranger to Cameron Park or El Dorado County, having worked for the Cal Fire Amador-El Dorado Unit in 2006 and becoming a fire captain at Cal Fire’s El Dorado Station 43 in 2010.
The “ever-changing environment” is what drew Martin to a career in firefighting, he shared with the Mountain Democrat. Originally from Vacaville, he joined the Shasta Range Unit as a firefighter intern at Burney Station in 1999. His most recent assignment was at the McClellan Air Tanker Base, where he had worked on and off since the inception of the program in 2008;  he took a permanent position there in 2018.

Martin said he enjoys “the variety of the job, the critical thinking, solving and mitigating emergencies” but most important to the new fire chief is giving back to his community.

Last Meeting, May-11-2023, Richard Esposito, Publisher of Mtn. Democrat
Richard B. Esposito is the publisher of the Mountain Democrat located at Placerville California. He’s held that position since 2009. Additional publication titles under his responsibility include: Village Life, El Dorado Hills; The Georgetown Gazette, Georgetown; and Cameron Park Life.  The Democrat and these other publications are owned by McNaughton Media Inc.

The Mountain Democrat is the oldest newspaper in the state of California, leaading to some interesting history.  In the 1860's since the paper Sympathized for the South, President Lincoln shut down the wire service to the paper.  At that time, the paper changed its name from the Mountain Republican to the Mountain Democrat.  The cosolidation in the industry started early here.  In the 1850's there were 19 newspapers in the County.  There are only a few now, and they are under one ownership.

Local news is what drives the staff of the Democrat -- there is no national or international news since there are many other outlets for that.  Other sources of income for the company include the printing of:  The Eldorado Visitor's Guide; the Auburn Lake Trails phonebook; a business map for Placerville; Wine Destinations map for EDC and Amador County; Adventures Magazine; and Happy Healthy Pets.
