Please join us this Thursday, July 22, 2021 by Zoom at 3:30 pm social, 4:00 pm meeting to hear Dr. Bill Wittich, who will provide an outstanding presentation to help our club attract new members. These new members must include a mix of younger, middle-aged and older members. Dr. Bill Wittich is a speaker and author in the field of non-profit management. He travels an average of 100 days a year speaking to professional associations and Rotary clubs. His doctorate is from USC and he has authored a dozen books in the association and non-profit field. His most recent book is Stop Recruiting/Start Attracting and is available at Amazon.com.
He is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Laguna Sunrise, and he has served as an Assistant Governor for District 5180. Bill has also served as an instructor for Far West Pets for over ten years.
Charles McDonald, Executive Director of the Upper Room Dining Hall in Placerville, spoke about the operation of the Upper Room and of the homeless crisis in El Dorado County. He has spent the last 10 years serving the broken and marginalized members of our community. Since June of 2018, he was appointed Executive Director and began working with other local non-profit and faith-based organizations, county and city governments, and law enforcement to become one of the lead agencies serving the homeless community of El Dorado County.
During the COVID pandemic the Upper Room changed from offering 120 traditional meals per day to 300 take-out meals per day. They never sent anyone home hungry. Thus they survived the pandemic. In addressing the homeless problem, they found that food is the magnet to start building a relationship with the unhoused people. The Upper Room is in pretty good shape financially with support coming about equally from three groups: individuals, other non-profit or government organizations, and from private businesses, churches or partners.
In the past 18 months, we have had 7 members pass away, 4 have moved out of the area, and now Roger Hassler has announced that he is moving to Idaho.
The board has decided that we will be reviving our Christmas Dinner fund-raiser, and will continue our Mexican-themed St. Patty's Day fund-raiser.
Our Rotary Club will be rejoining the Cameron Park/Shingle Springs Chamber of Commerce for the first time in a few years for a $48 membership fee. Their mixers are a good recruiting opportunity.
