Stories
Next Meeting, Aug. 30th: Jennifer Donchenko -- Sweet Dreams Foundation
Jennifer Donchenko's organization, Sweet Dreams Foundation, has a mission to create dream bedrooms for children diagnosed with life threatening illnesses. From their web site: "We take the time to get to know each child’s needs and wants, then create an atmosphere that will be uplifting to the child to help with their healing process."
Last Meeting, Aug-23rd -- ADG Vickie & Wanda Gaines: Miss/Mr CP/SS
ADG Vickie introduced Wanda Gaines (center) of the "It's Time to Change the Story" organization and of the Cameron Park / Shingle Springs Chamber of Commerce.  This group judges applicants and names several of our youth as King or Queen of Cameron Park / Shingle Springs.  We were able to meet 3 of the 4 winners for 2018 at our meeting:  Rebecca LaBad  (a recent graduate of Ponderosa High School, more on her later), Adrianna Novelo (the manager of BV Cattle Ranch in Shingle Springs, and in the picture), and Charlie Bredahl, a sr. at Ponderosa High.

Last Meeting -- Dave Sargent: Scholarship Presentation
Dave Sargent presided over a description of the CP Rotary Club Scholarship Committee process and presentation of a scholarship to Rebecca Labad (pictured).  Jana Ellerman, Past-President Ann and Dave interviewed three students and chose Rebecca Labad (see previous story) to be the recipient of a Club scholarship and submitted an application to the District to consider Rebecca for a District 5190 scholarship.  The District approved that request, enabling a potential scholarship of $3,000 over one academic year. Dave presented Rebecca with a check for $1,500 to assist her towards her college degree.  [The second half of the scholarship will be awarded in the Spring when she provides proof of enrollment for that semester.]  Rebecca has been accepted to Redlands University in Redlands, CA, where she aspires to a math or computer science major and will run on the track team (having also won an athletic scholarship).  We wish her well and continued success at University of Redlands.
Last Meeting -- CP Rotary Community Foundation Meeting
Dave Sargent also presided over the annual meeting of the Cameron Park Rotary Community Foundation.  Secretary Anne Eckert declared there to be a quorum for the meeting and took the minutes.  Dave asked for volunteers for the vacant board member position.  Ben Foulk volunteered and was nominated as a candidate for that position; the members will vote on his nomination in the Aug. 30th meeting.  Further details about this annual meeting will be in the secretary's minutes.
