Next Meeting, Jul-27-2023: Member Vocation: Cheryl Matossian, M.D.
Member Cheryl Matossian, M.D. will talk to us about her work as a family practice and sports medicine physician. She graduated with her bachelor and M.D. degrees from the University of Rochester in New York state.  Her residency was at UCSD and her fellowship in sports medicine was at San Diego sports medicine center. She has had a private practice for over 20 years in El Dorado Hills. Prior to that she worked in private practice in Elk Grove as well as donated many hours at Cal State Sacramento working with the athletic teams. She is married with 4 children and 5 grandchildren.
Last Meeting, Jul-20-2023:  Bill Hagbery & LuAnne LePere, Solar Telescope Demonstration
Our speakers, lead solar docent Bill Hagbery and docent LuAnne LePere, are two of the incredibly talented and dedicated volunteer docents helping guests enjoy a quality educational experience at the Rotary Club of Cameron Park Community Observatory.  Before retiring as an electrical engineer, he oversaw a dozen federal hydroelectric powerplants in the Central Valley Project, the largest water project on Earth.  Bill was supported by other docents, LuAnne LePere and Martin Dunlap.  LuAnne, known to many of us as daughter of the late long-time CP Rotary member Chuck LePere, gave the speech inside the club before we went out to look at the Sun through their instruments.

Bill gave us a brief presentation about the sun and solar system, as well as the solar program at the Observatory,  This site has  shown the Sun to more people than any other observatory in the US.   Bill and several docents brought their solar telescopes so were able to go outside on the Club's balcony to safely view the Sun.  The Sun was very active, enabling us to view many sunspots and solar prominences.  The prominences when viewed with a red filter were breath-taking. In the photo to the right, Rotary Scholarship recipient Brooke Morgan and father Jason and member Gary Clarke look on as LuAnne focusses an image of the Sun with its sun spots on a white surface.

This was an exciting meeting we hope you didn't miss!
