Next Meeting, Aug-1, 2024: Laura Clark, Senior Care Solutions
Laura Clark, BSW, is a Family Consultant for Senior Care Solutions in Fair Oaks. She will be discussing when to consider placement of a loved one, the different type of senior care and how to pay for senior care. She will also present what a Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care is and how it is different from a Do Not Resuscitate form. Senior Care Solutions is able to provide their services free to you and your family as they are reimbursed by facilities in the community. Senior Care Solutions does not endorse any facility and has no financial interest in any facilities. Facility referrals are given solely for information and resource purposes.
Last Meeting, July 25, 2024: Kristina Noble, El Dorado Disposal
Kristina Noble is the Education and Outreach Coordinator for El Dorado Disposal, the primary waste disposal company for the county. She has been with El Dorado Disposal for seven years, starting as a Customer Service Representative. As she puts, "if you want to talk trash, she will be happy to chat". Her presentation was centered on what can be recycled. Based on the many questions it was obvious that there is a lot of confusion about what we think we can recycle. For example, shredded paper and plastic bags are NOT recycled. Plastic bottles are OK, if you remove the caps. Food waste can now go into the green waste can. Kristina passed out a Residential Waste Guide and a handout on the details of recycling. Finally, she explained that over the next two years the yellow lid can will switch to blub lids statewide.
Rotary Clubs host Social and Stargazing
Last Monday night, we, along with our neighbors - Placerville, El Dorado Hills, and Pollock Pines-Camino Rotary Clubs - hosted an ice cream social and stargazing event for visiting students from our sister city in Warabi, Japan, at the Rotary Club of Cameron Park Community Observatory.   We were delighted to have Visiting Rotarian William Smyth from Palm Desert attend and Herme Reyes from Nicaragua attend as well.  Thank you to Laurie Edwards, Julie Bauer and the wonderful docents for organizing this event.  A special thank you goes to Janet Yarbrough, who arrived at 11:00 AM to help set up tables and chairs, and to Denise Leach and Stewart Warner for setting up and serving at the ice cream station.

While we were enjoying ice cream and fellowship, Chief Docent Randy Hodges excitedly pointed out the passing Space Station, much to the delight of our guests.  We then moved to the Art Cort Sky Theater.
