Last Meeting, Aug-24-2023: Dave Sargent -- CP Rotary Community Foundation
Club Member Dave Sargent is also Chairman of the CP Rotary Community Foundation Board, and Past-President of our club.  On August 24th, Dave led the annual meeting of the Cameron Park Rotary Community Foundation (CPRCF) as required by the CPCRF by-laws. Dave provided a brief history of the Foundation, its relationship to the club, and its purpose.

To acquaint new members with these organizations, Dave showed a Venn diagram that showed that the set of Rotary Club of Cameron Park members were the same as the set of CPRCF members.  One of the major functions of this Foundation is to manage the Rasmussen Endowment Fund.  This fund was the brainchild and was initially funded by late member Darol Rasmussen in the form of a $100,000 contribution made to encourage the rest of the club to match that amount.  The rest of the club actually exceeded that amount, and today, the balance of the fund is $288,000.  Income from these investments is used to fund vocational training grants for deserving students and adults from the Western slope.

The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization, allowing tax-deductible contributions, depending on the individual's tax situation.  The Foundation has encouraged other NGOs to use this status to allow contributions to their cause to be managed and stored by the CPCRF.  These organizations include: Our Rotary Club; the Cameron Park C.C. Fashion Show; Buckeye School; the Rotary Club of Camino-Pollock Pines; the Rotary Community Observatory; and of course, the Rasmussen Endowment Fund.

As part of this annual members, two board members, Dave Sargent and Don Fuller were nominated and unanimously voted in to renew their 3-year terms.  Also as part of  this meeting, recent member Denise Leach was nominated and agreed to serve on the Scholarship Committee, which makes decisions on which students receive Academic Scholarships.   Dave asked other members who might be interested in this kind of service to see him after the meeting.

In addition, we will conduct an election for two expiring Board seats and Dave will reiterate some information about our academic scholars.
