Apr-22:  Rotary work party at Cameron Park Lake
April 22, 2023, Earth Day was a proud day for our club.  Our project to restore the Observation Platform at Cameron Park Lake was completed.  A big thanks to all that joined in the fun and work on that day:  Sid Bazett, Gary Clarke, Cathy Dugan, Laurie Edwards, Tom Elken, Dan Gott, Rich Grieco, Adam Marshall, Joe Ryan, Greg Wood, Ben Young, and President Don Fuller.  A lot was accomplished: 800 square feet of Trex laid and attached with about 1600 screws; many iron railings disassembled, scraped, sanded, painted and reattached to the repainted fence-posts. So hard on the knees, fingers, hands and backs!  An amazing job!
And today’s work on Earth Day by the Rotary Club of Cameron Park will be recognized for years to come with a plaque that will be installed on the railing. (Credits to Prez Don for an email that this story is based on.)
Next Meeting, Apr-27-2023, Amy Pooley, Executive Director, CASA
Child Advocates of El Dorado (CASA) provides support, empowerment, and a voice for the abused, neglected, and at-risk youth in our community.  Amy Pooley is the Executive Director and will speak to us about the current status and needs of CASA.  When children are abused or severely neglected, they must rely on adults to help them obtain justice and services. Who deserves an advocate more than an abused or neglected child?

The heart of our program is the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), a specially trained and supervised community volunteer, appointed by a Juvenile Court judge. CASA advocates make a difference in the lives of abused and neglected children by researching and monitoring cases involving children in foster care.  CASA’s typically take only one case at a time, allowing ample time to gather thorough information. They build relationships with their “CASA kids” by spending time with them, gathering facts about their life so they can report back to the judge; who can then make a more-informed decision as to what services and support are in the best interest the child.
Last Meeting, Apr-20-2023: Col. Adam Marshall, Experiences in Europe related to the Ukraine War
Colonel Marshall is the Director of Operations (A3), HQ Hawaii Air National Guard, Fort Ruger, Hawaii.  Colonel Marshall graduated with a History degree from the University of Washington and was commissioned through the ROTC program in 1998. As the A3, he is responsible for operations spanning Air Dominance, Aerial Refueling, Airlift, Space Electronic Warfare, Operational C2, Air Defense, and Cyber missions including the Nation’s largest ANG Wing; ensuring ready, relevant, and resilient airmen are poised to support US Indo-Pacific Command, Pacific Air Forces, and the State of Hawaii.  Adam spoke to us as a private citizen and his views related to us did not represent the DoD, the US Air Force, or the Hawaiian Air National Guard.

Adam described his dual career of military and civilian service.  At times these run in parallel, and at times they come together.  After not getting the opportunity to pursue military intelligence in his defense dept. career, he has pursued that in his civilian career as a defense intelligence officer for private firms.

Adam Marchall was mobilized 18 days after the invasion of Ukraine and spent 6 months in Europe as the Vice Commander of the Air Operations Center there.
