This week features Morgen Earle and Matt Huckabay, who will share "what it takes to break the cycle of family violence."
Morgen is a Community Outreach Program Manager with a passion for connecting people through education, storytelling, and digital media. In his current role at The Center for Violence-Free Relationships, he leads community education events, multi-channel media campaigns, and video production with a trauma-informed approach to topics like sexual assault, domestic violence, and recovery. Beyond his nonprofit work, Morgen has built an engaged online community of more than 600,000 followers, where he blends creativity and advocacy to spark conversations around healing, resilience, and human connection. With a background in marketing strategy, donor cultivation, and content production, Morgen brings both professional expertise and lived experience to his speaking engagements, offering audiences practical tools, authentic stories, and a message of hope.
In 2008 Matt began his journey as the Chief Executive Officer at The Center for Violence Free Relationships. During his tenure he has been instrumental in expanding the organization focus and services from crisis intervention into a holistic and comprehensive family violence prevention and intervention organization. Matt has served as a regional representative of the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence, Board Member and President of the California Coalition to End Sexual Assault (Valor US), member of the California Department of Public Health’s Rape Prevention Education Steering Committee and is a Senior Fellow with the American Leadership Forum.
Last week’s presentation featured Margaret Ervin and Jodie Regan, who shared the many ways Snowline Health supports and honor veterans. Over the past year, Snowline has provided hospice care to 87 local veterans, ensuring that their service and sacrifice are recognized with dignity and compassion.
Margaret emphasized the importance of listening closely to veterans and understanding their unique needs at the end of life. Both she and Jodie spoke about their involvement in Snowline Health’s We Honor Veterans pinning ceremonies These moving ceremonies include the presentation of the American flag, a certificate of appreciation, and a challenge coin to a veteran. For some, it is the very first time they have been formally thanked for their service- a powerful reminder of how meaningful recognition can be. Veteran volunteers help lead the presentations, adding a deeply personal and emotional touch.
In addition to hospice care, Snowline Health supports veterans through a wide range of community programs They have taken part in coat drives, outreach events, and the Stand Down event, which offers free medical, dental, and other essential services to veterans. Unfortunately, this year's event has been postponed due to a shortage of healthcare providers.
Save the date! Join us on Sunday evening, October 19, for a private gathering of Rotarians, neighbors and friends at the Observatory for pizza and fellowship, followed by an exciting evening of stargazing led by a talented team of dedicated docents. We'll also be welcoming Rotarians from the West Slope and the American River Rotary Club of Sacramento. The cost is $15 per person, with more details to come.
If the weather does not cooperate, the backup date will be October 26th.

At our last meeting, we proudly recognized Ethan Young, an 8th grade student at Camerado Springs Middle School, as Student of the Quarter. Ethan is the son of Matt and Mary Young.
During the award presentation, Principal Doug Shupe praised Ethan for his leadership, athletic accomplishments, strong ethics, kindness toward others, respect for adults, academic excellence, and role-model qualities—all of which contributed to his selection. “Ethan exemplifies the values we celebrate through this award,” added Club President Adam Marshall. “We are proud to honor him as Student of the Quarter.”
In recognition of his achievements, Ethan received a certificate of achievement and a Barnes & Noble gift card. Congratulations, Ethan!
Our People of Action were busy this past Sunday at the Rotary Club of Cameron Park booth during the Junction Jamboree Summer Farewell 2025 Community Festival at Burke Junction. Members greeted neighbors, served $5 margaritas, and collected bids on two beautifully refurbished bicycles. A big thank you to everyone who joined in and supported our efforts!
This week President Adam called on Kathy Thompson- to answer three questions so we could get to know her better as we “Unite for Good.” Kathy, who joined our club this past August, said her favorite Rotary moment so far is today's meeting! One fun fact many not know- Kathy is an avid birder.
