Next Meeting,  Aug-05, 2021:  Jim Abercrombie, EID General Manager
California is again experiencing a significant drought.  What does this mean for the El Dorado Irrigation District (EID) and its customers? We will find out when EID General Manager Jim Abercrombie talks to us.  He will also update members on the new role for EID in the new development south of US 50 in Sacramento County.  Though not in this county, an agreement was made years ago requiring EID to provide water to this small area.

Jim has more than 40 years of utility management experience, including 11 years as Amador Water Agency’s general manager and 20 years at Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). Prior to joining EID, he served as PG&E’s El Dorado County district manager, from 1987 to 1998. A registered civil engineer, he earned an engineering degree from Santa Clara University and a master’s degree in business administration from Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business.

Jim is past President of the Placerville Rotary Club, El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce, El Dorado County Development Corporation, and El Dorado County United Way. Currently, he is a member of the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce, Placerville Rotary, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Posse, and S.A.G.E. (Surveyors, Architects, Geologists, and Engineers).  Jim also serves on the Marshall Medical Board and is currently the chair for 2020-2021.
Last Meeting,  July 22, 2021:  Dr. Bill Wittich, Stop Recruiting, Start Attracting
Dr. Bill Wittich delivered an outstanding presentation to help our club attract new members. These new members must include a mix of younger, middle-aged and older members. He is a speaker and author in the field of non-profit management. He travels an average of 100 days a year speaking to professional associations and Rotary clubs. His doctorate is from USC and he has authored a dozen books in the association and non-profit field. His most recent book is Stop Recruiting/Start Attracting and is available at Amazon.com.

Bill gave a practical exposition of how to attract members and what different demographic groups are interested in finding at a club like ours.  He asked and answered "What are young (20-40-year olds) professionals looking for in a service club?": 1) Networking, 2) Social and friendly, 3) Learn something new, 4) Fun, and 5) Service; in that order.  Why is Service #5?  They may already be doing service in volunteering through schools, food banks, church, etc.  He provided tips for how to attract different groups: a green project for 20-40-year old young professionals; Family oriented projects for people with families; Enlist women in your club  to approach prospective women members; Boomers are retiring at a rate of 10,000 per day and are asking "Now what?".

He mentioned that our club should consider adding social media accounts with Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn, to reach more of our target audience.  Several members and President Mike were effusive in their praise of Dr. Wittich's very practical and useful presentation.
