This Week's Meeting, May 28, 2026: Greg Schwegler and Alex Bourriague, Cal Fire on Home Hardening

At this week’s meeting, Cal Fire Captain Greg Schwegler and Wildlife Mitigation Coordinator Alex Bourriague will present an important program on home hardening and wildfire mitigation. Their presentation will focus on practical steps homeowners can take to reduce the risk of wildfire damage, including ways to strengthen homes against embers, flames, and radiant heat.

With Northern California continuing to face elevated wildfire danger each year, the program will also highlight prevention efforts, defensible space strategies, and ways residents can better prepare their homes and properties before fire season. This timely presentation promises to provide valuable information for homeowners and community members alike.

Last Week's Meeting, May 21, 2026:  Field Trip to Many Oaks Lavender Farm

Last week, members enjoyed a fun field trip at Many Oaks Lavender Farm in Shingle Springs, located just a few miles from the club’s regular meeting location. Owners Colleen and Geoff Revill welcomed the group and shared the story of how they launched the farm in 2020 after pandemic-related job disruptions led them to turn their small market garden and lavender plants into a certified organic lavender business.

The Revills explained the different varieties of lavender they grow and how the plants are used for culinary products, essential oils, soaps, aromatherapy items, sprays, sachets, wreaths, and other handcrafted products. Members also learned about lavender cultivation, including pruning techniques, watering needs, drainage requirements, and the plant’s natural resistance to pests.

Following gourmet box lunches prepared by caterer Diane Wilkinson, members enjoyed a short tour of the beautiful property and lavender fields.
