Last Meeting: Sep-01-2022: District Governor Jeff Gabriel
The speaker at our last meeting was our District Governor for District 5190 2022-23, Jeff Gabriel.  He is from the Rotary Club of Bishop Sunrise, and he also assisted in presenting awards to some of our members.

Jeff gave a stirring speech about the themes and logos for 2022-2023 at the RI and at our district level.  New and first female RI President Jennifer Jones designed (with the help of an aboriginal Australian) a logo for the year with 7 dots, representing the 7 areas of focus (see this page's "What we do") for RI surrounding a circle that signifies that everyone is equal, all over a horizontal bar, which represents a "digging stick" and hard work (sort of like our club's #2 shovel).  Jeff then described his symbol for the year: a pair of sequoia trees tied together by loops of purple ribbon which implies that "Together We are One".  He showed us a collection of pine cones and encouraged us to guess what kind of tree could grow from them.  The smallest cones grow into the largest trees: the Coast Redwood and the Sequoia.

Award Presentations and Auction
With DG Jeff Gabriel here to assist, President Don and other members presented new member badges, awards and recognitions for generosity and good works.  At the conclusion to this story, there are links to slideshows to show the festivities.  In order of the program:
  1. Tom Elken receives the Quiet Rotarian award
  2. Steve Long receives the Heart of Service award
  3. Andre Pichly (CP CSD GM) and Rene Villanueva (Astute Wealth Management) receive their Red Badges and were greeted as new Rotary Club of Cameron Park members.
  4. Janet Yarbrough, Suzy O'Neal, Laurie Edwards, Gary Clarke, and Rich Grieco receive PolioPlus Society recognition.
  5. Gary Clarke, Janet Yarbrough, and Gary Gall receive Paul Harris Fellow awards.
Ben Young won the bidding to hold the #2 Shovel -- in honor of  Art Cort -- plaque until the next time it is auctioned, with a very generous bid of $1000 for the Rotary Foundation.
The slide show of pictures and captions for this meeting, and especially for the Award Ceremony is at this Photo Album on our website.  Click on "Start Sideshow" or on individual pictures.  For a more entertaining video slide show, with background music, please see Laurie Edwards' creation on the Vimeo site.
