Next Meeting, Dec-12-2024: Katie Carruesco, CA Dept. of Financial Protection
Before the next lunch meeting, please remember the Annual Christmas Dinner and Auction, December 5th at 5:30pm, and bring a guest!

The next lunch meeting is on December 12th, at the Shingle Springs Community Center, 2.5 weeks from now. The speaker is Katie Carruesco, a Targeted Outreach Specialist from the CA Department of Financial Protection & Innovation will present to Rotary Club of Cameron Park on her expertise: investment fraud, common scams and unscrupulous sales practices.  We will send her bio and photo to members in an email closer to that date.
Last Meeting, Nov-21-2024: Bill Glasser, Burke Junction
Bill Glaser introduced himself as the owner-manager of Burke Junction in Cameron Park.  Laying the groundwork for a shopping center at this location was Sam's Town, a western-themed business, established in 1967, across the street from where Burke Junction was eventually built.  Jerry Burke saw the opportunity in 1986 to start a western-themed shopping and dining center across the street and named it Burke Junction.  At the meeting, Bill Glasser showed us a history of the railroad train at Burke Junction (no longer in operation) in the form of this YouTube video: The Story of the Burke Junction Railroad. The train was just too expensive in terms of fees, insurance and maintenance to justify keeping it going.

So what were the next ideas for events or businesses to serve to attract the public to this shopping & dining center?  There is a Farmer's Market Wednesday's from 7am to noon.  There is a Halloween celebration to attract kids and their families once a year.  The ongoing effort, though is the Burke Junction Theater.  The quality of plays there is excellent, President Cathy says.  Bill hopes that people will make a dinner and a theater date-night by watching a play at The Stage at Burke Junction.  Dave Sargent mentioned that he and his wife Carol really enjoy dinner at the Thai Rice restaurant there.
