 We heard from Kristine Guth, El Dorado County (EDC) and Tom Tinsley, Cal Fire. Also in attendance were Jed Gaines, Cal Fire and Michelle Patterson, EDC, as they spoke about the Vegetation Management & Defensible Space Ordinance in El Dorado County, Code 4291. Because of the recent fires -- mostly 2017 & 18 in El Dorado County, The Sand Fire and the King Fire -- the Vegetation Management ordinance 5101, Chapter 8 became effective in May 2019. The goals included: 1) Reducing the potential for fire, and promote the safety and well-being of the community; 2) Working together – Compliance & monitoring; and 3) Safeguard our Property & lives. Guidelines for achieving these goals and removing hazardous vegetation include: Lean, Clean & Green – 100’ of clearance around structures (habitable); Remove debris on roofs and gutters; Limbing up trees (6 feet) - keep them 10’ away from chimney & have a screen on top; Horizontal spacing – won’t create fire ladder- 30’ from your habitable structure; and Working with your neighbors to have 100 feet of clearance. - On or before February 15, 2020: Properties in the identified areas will be mailed a notice that vegetation must be removed by June 1, 2020. A sample inspection checklist will be included with the letter and posted on the web.
- June 1, 2020 & Beyond: Compliance Inspections – CalFire will begin conducting inspections of the identified areas. County staff will begin conducting complaint inspections
