Next Meeting, Feb-23-2023: JoEllen Brooks, Member, Realtor, and Volunteer

Prior to transitioning to the real estate industry, JoEllen Brooks worked in elder care and mortgage finance. As different as both fields are, each contributed to her passion for dedicated service. JoEllen is knowledgeable in laws and compliance which are key in successfully navigating the often tumultuous and highly dynamic Californian real estate market. Her experience during the mortgage meltdown in 2008 also taught her how to help people get through tough times as a real listener, considerate problem solver, and objective advisor. She brings on board mortgage finance expertise as well as contacts that her clients can benefit from. Her passion for people as a true caregiver at heart is evidenced by the fast friendships she fostered while working in elder care as well as the easy rapport she now has with clients and colleagues alike. She volunteers with CASA El Dorado, and hosts monthly networking events that are tied to charities and loves to help/walk yearly in the Walk to End to Alzheimer’s event.

Last Meeting: Feb-16-2023: Annual Speech Contest
In our Annual Speech contest, we heard lively speeches from Ponderosa High School students from the Speech & Debate Club. Rotary member Sid Bazett coordinated the contest this year with Speech Coach Brock Dyer.  The topic was set as ”Have you imagined Working Together to better the lives of others, and how did you implement your idea?” The talks were targetted as 5-7 minutes in length and there was prize money for all entrants. Dave Sargent, Mike Dugan and Steve Long were speech judges and Tom Elken was the time judge. It is always a pleasure to hear the impressive speeches from these talented students.  The prizes ranged from $250 to $50.  The participants were Noelle, California, Julianna, Annalise and Kirstin, with ages ranging from freshmen to senior year.  It was a treat to hear the contrasting and inventive approaches the speakers took for the same topic.
