Rotary Club of Cameron Park’s Public Image Chair Tom Elken has been working hard taking inventory of our signs in the community and determining which signs need updating and replacing. He shared his findings and recommendations with us. Tom reviewed nearly 15 existing signs on various parks, sports fields and the Observatory. Most of these are in fairly good shape, requiring only cleaning, repainting and some repair. For example, the Observatory Sign needs to have some Lichen removed, but the sign is otherwise in very good condition. Tom and Joe Ryan visited all of these sites and Laurie Edwards contributed many photos. A sub-committee will meet to prioritize what signs need what and estimate costs. That committee will include Tom Elken, Joe Ryan, Dave Sargent, Cathy Dugan and Mike Dugan.Our outstanding RYLA candidate, Isabella A., shared with us her life changing experiences participating in this year's leadership camp between June 16-21. Isabella will be a senior next year at UMHS. She had a very positive experie

President Cathy Dugan recognized her last board by awarding them with "Challenge Coins" from what once was a military tradition to today where organizations give out coins to symbolize the identity, values and achievements of groups like Rotary. The beautiful metal coins had Cameron Park Rotary and RI on one side and these words on the other: "We are Rotarians. Our beliefs, values and character, unites us in our efforts at making this a better world. As Rotarians, we are stewards for doing good in the community. Coins were presented to those board members present including, Adam Marshall, Tom Elken, Joe Ryan, Dave Sargent, Bill Ettlich, Anne Eckert and Dan Gott. (pictured). President Cathy also inducted new officers and directors for 2024-2025, including President: Cathy Dugan, Secretary: Bill Ettlich, Treasurer: Dan Gott, President-Elect: Adam Marshall, Club Service: Marlyn Pino-Jones, International: Dave Sargent, RI Foundation: Bill Hughes, Community Service: Joe Ryan, Membership: Anne Eckert, Youth Service: Sid Bazett and Public Image: Tom Elken.
President Cathy also recognized Joe Ryan as "Rotarian of the Month" or as she said "Rotarian of the Year" for his efforts with the club's famous bike program (pictured). Joe reported on his meeting with the new Acting Warden at the Folsom State Prison, Joseph R. Tuggle, presenting him with a packet of club materials and an Award for his Community Service. Warden Tuggle has been on the prison staff for years and is very supportive of the bike program, calling it "the best inmate program we have". Also included was a letter from President Cathy Dugan, inviting the warden to join us as an Honorary Member. The Warden is a graduate of Ponderosa High school and lives in Cameron Park.
